Throughout history, the idea of the future has always promised better days, advanced technology, and of course—hover cars. Although we were correct about the better days (depending on who you ask) and advanced technology, we are still without hover cars, or pretty much any hovercraft vehicles—The Jetsons and Back to the Future were a lie!

But it looks like we are finally on our way to the "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" with the invention of the hover bike!

Okay, so it's not exactly a hover car, or a hover skateboard for that matter, but a hover bike is awesome nonetheless. The company Aerofex has created the Aero-X, a two-seater bike that is no bigger than a small car. We covered these guys previously, but now a year removed, these crafts are ready for more than just search-and-rescue.

The Aero-X can go over any terrain and could be very beneficial for surveying, search-and-rescue, border patrol, disaster relief, aerial agriculture, ranching, and much more.

This hovercraft comes in multiple colors and has the option for airbags and floatation pontoons for water operations. But, here's the kicker...it will cost $85,000 per bike.

The safety specifications include vertical takeoffs and landings without runways or forward speed, a power train monitoring system, a redundant control system, and a roll bar...you know, for safety.

The bike can fly up to 10 feet off the ground at 45 miles per hour and production models will be available for purchase in 2017.

As a side note, the hover bike will weigh 785 pounds. I guess you could say this bike is heavy, Doc.
